Eine Schleuse / one lock
Wir treffen uns um 8:30 beim Frühstücksbuffet im Hotel und laden uns Teller um Teller voll. Danach tanken wir Emily im Jachthafen auf und verlassen Wien kurz nach zehn.
We meet at the hotel at 8:30, where we have breakfast together. The choice is amazing, we load our plates. Then we fill Emily up at the marina gas station and leave Vienna around 10 am.
Es hat zwar nur eine Schleuse bis Bratislava, aber die hat es in sich, wir warten eine geschlagene Stunde. Danach geht's in flotter Fahrt weiter. Vale und Gregor treffen um etwa 14 Uhr in Bratislava ein und wir möchten pünktlich sein. Noch flotter unterwegs ist das Kursschiff.
There's only one lock on the way to Bratislava, but unfortunately we must wait for a full hour until we can enter it. After that, we speed up as we plan to meet Vale and Gregor in Bratislava at 2pm. The regular ship between Vienna and Bratislava is even faster.

Wir legen an einer Mauer an und warten auf unsere Freunde.
We attach Emily on the side of the river and wait for our friends.

Eine eher komische Komposition: ein Schiff schiebt hinten, ein zweites ist an der Seite angemacht.
A rather strange combination: one ship is pushing, and another one is attached to the side.
Wir essen in einem kleinen Restaurant am Flussufer. Die Kellnerin fragt, wie wir aus der Schweiz nach Bratislava gekommen sind. "Mit dem Boot da unten". Sie lächelt leicht verwirrt.
We eat in a small Restaurant at the riverside. The waitress asks us how we came from Switzerland to Bratislava. "With the boat down there". She looks slightly puzzled.
Unser Aufenthalt im Restaurant zieht sich etwas in die Länge. Die Polizei hat ihren Freudentag und kontrolliert jedes Fahrzeug auf dem Fluss. Da schauen wir lieber zu als deren Bekanntschaft zu machen.
We extend our stay in the Restaurant. It seems to be Happy Police Day, they control each and every vehicle on the river, and we prefer watching over being involved.
Das nennt man 'aussitzen'.
It's called 'to sit something out'.
Die Polizei scheint Feierabend zu haben, sie fahren Flussabwärts. Wir auch. Und prompt treffen wir sie weiter unten. Wir winken freundlich, sie winken zurück. Glück gehabt - oder hat sie Benis Zipfelgesicht abgehalten, uns zu kontrollieren?
The Police seems to call it a day, they drive down the river. We drive slowly down as well. But we meet them again further down the Danube. We wave to them, they wave back - seems like we are lucky. Or was it Beni's face that prevented them from checking us?
Wir fahren in einen Stausee. Er hat auch einen Namen, aber den kann ich hier nicht schreiben, da mir die komischen Zeichen auf der Tastatur fehlen. Dort legen wir in einem Jachthafen an, wo wir die Nacht zu verbringen gedenken.
We enter a barrier lake. It has a nice name, but I can't write it here, as this keyboard lacks the fancy characters. There, we plan to stay at a Marina for the night.

Das Menü. Google übersetzt das eine mit 'gebratener Hermelin', das andere mit 'ertrunkenes Brot'. Wir nehmen Spaghetti, sicher ist sicher. Nach Speis und reichlich Trank legen wir uns auf dem Boot schlafen.
The menu. Google translates one dish as 'roasted ermine', another one as 'drown bread'. We take Spaghetti, better to be safe than sorry. After a lot of food and even more drinks we go sleeping on the boat.
